“You are a picked up donut!”
This phrase rang through my household during my childhood. My sister and I would hear this jumble of words from my mom and my grandmother. Google has failed me in finding a meaning for this phrase, but the words have been consistently spoken in my family. I heard it when I did something productive, like chores or homework, when my mom wasn’t expecting me to. This phrase has always been associated with productivity to me. I have not felt like a picked up donut recently, but I am going to change that. And not just because I need to follow what society says I should be, but because I need to take care of myself for my loved ones around me.
